Benefits Of Cycling

Cycling for weight loss -  For those who are tired of working in the office from morning to evening, do not have time to go to the gym to exercise, cycling is the ideal exercise for the whole day. This is the easiest way to exercise. All it takes is a two-wheeler, half an hour, and a little confidence. This is what I am learning from my own life.

In 1974, I was offered a Ph.D. in Dermatology at Nagoya University School of Medicine in Japan. I returned to the country in 1989 as a dermatologist after five years of research on dermatology with a Rotary International scholarship.

But this long journey of five years was not easy at all. Going to the hospital every day, keeping the girl in the child daycare center is a big problem. As time is wasted by bus or subway, so does the cost. Everyone rides a bicycle here, each house has several bicycles of different sizes.

So I decided to learn cycling on the advice of my Japanese friends. In our childhood, it was not customary for a child to buy a small bicycle, so he did not ride a bicycle in his life. For the first time, at the age of 29, I started learning to ride a big bicycle in Surumai Park near my home. Japanese girlfriend Usami was holding from behind for the first day. The old men and women who came to visit Gambatte Kudasai Park applauded. "Don't look at your feet, just look ahead," they continued in Japanese. In just five days, I became proficient in cycling around the park alone. I can't express in words what joy it was. A new entity was born in itself.

At first, I was afraid to go out on the road with my bicycle. Because, in Japan, you have to cycle on the sidewalk. There are hundreds more bicycles and thousands of pedestrians. You have to ride a bicycle with a sharp eye in all directions. No one should be attacked. Gradually, my husband and I cycled from Nagoya to Nagoya. What a happy day. In the morning I would take the children to daycare and go to Nagoya Medical University. On the way back, I would pick up the children from the supermarket and take them to the back basket of the bicycle. I cycled like a Japanese mother, tying my son to my back with a baby carrier belt and putting my daughter in a baby seat.

By saving bicycle time, reducing costs, and increasing fitness, the Japanese made expensive living much easier. In Japan, there is a festival called 'Matsuri' almost every month. During the holidays, various events and fairs were organized in big parks on this occasion. We used to come to these places with our family on bicycles.

Back in Bangladesh, I regularly cycling 30 to 40 minutes every morning in front of my house in Hatirjheel. If I want to go somewhere nearby, I go by bicycle. I do not have diabetes or high blood pressure and I have a weight control.
